If you had the opportunity to ask God but one question, what would you ask him?
Would you ask him why the world continues to suffer from lingering issues that could have been eradicated long ago?
I would ask him, in his opinion, what truly is the deadliest of sins?
Some would say that lust is the deadliest of all the seven deadly sins.
Where one ignores the needs of their partner and the commitment they’ve made to each other, venturing instead on a quest in search of forbidden love from another.
Or perhaps wrath is the sin that makes the angels cringe, even in the furthest depths of heaven, as they say only God should possess the power to spare a life or choose to snatch its last breath away.
I believe the sin of mediocracy is the deadliest sin of them all.
Mediocracy, unlike all of the seven deadly sins, prefers to hide deep within the human spirit, where it has the time to rip its victim apart, piece by piece, while the host remains unaware of its very presence.
It can accomplish such a task with little to no effort because of its ability to remain so well hidden from the world, possibly even from the eyes of God himself.
You see, although we all possess talents that have been entrusted to us by God, with the expectation that we shall use these gifts to bring fruit to the world, many of us have never taken the time to acknowledge their existence within our lives.
Instead, we choose to follow a path that, at first glance, appeals far more to our sense of pride. This is the place within our lives where mediocracy begins its existence, spreading its evil toxin into our lives, as our feet were never meant to venture on this path or our bodies prepared for the obstacles it will face.
Therefore, despite our best efforts and intentions, our lives will forever remain bound by limitations, and success will forever remain outside the reach of what our fingertips can grasp.
It is only by acceptance that we cannot all dawn a cape and cowl and head off to save the world from the brink of devastation; some of us must remain in the background, destined to make sandwiches so that the people can be fed.
Even within the human body, such vital organs as the brain, the heart, and the lungs are doomed to remain nothing more than clumps of muscle and tissue if not for the bits and pieces that have been put in place to support their very existence.
So, I say to you, wipe the dust away from your talents and remove them from the shelf where they have been waiting patiently for far too long, for they are the pieces that will guide your direction to the person with whom you were truly meant to be.
